A unique mini beach buggy, manufactured by Noel Edmonds Unique Motor Company, was stolen last night (Sunday 19th March 2006) between 20:00 and 21:00 from a lay-by on the busy A320 Guildford to Woking road in Surrey.
One of its kind in the area, the open topped “mBug” resembles a cross between a quad bike and a beach buggy and belongs to Guildford based Marketing Technology business, Mesh Digital.
Reaching speeds of up to 50 MPH, the rugged off road looking vehicle can just about seat 2 people and is primarily used by the company to draw attention to an equally rugged looking advertising trailer that it can often be found towing around central London. The cheeky thieves disconnected it’s trailer, choosing to steal just the bug.
Heavily branded MBug.co.uk in White/Blue “wrapped” livery, the bug would be grey in colour if this livery was removed. Weighing just over 1/4 of a ton, it is very likely the mBug would of been lifted or rolled into a Van, Lorry or trailer when being stolen, rather than “hot-wired” next to the busy main road. It will NOT fit into the back of a normal transit style van due to it’s roll cage, but will fit into a high roof version of the same type of vehicle.
One of it’s kind in the area, if spotted in any colour, it will almost certainly belong to Mesh. However, to distinguish further, the rear of the vehicle has been customised to include a tow ball and electric connections to the rear bumper/underside and the number plate (M8UG A) is above the bumper on custom mounting brackets, rather than the usual position below the bumper.
Previously damaged, it has scratches to it’s livery on one of the rear wheel arches, across the top of the roll bar and down one side of the roll cage. Equally, the livery is missing from one of the wing mirrors from the same incident.
Anyone seeing the vehicle being loaded/stolen or who can provide any other information should contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 quoting ref P2809472.
